OAK DOORS

** DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL OR LACQUER **

    Oak can sometimes develop a dark blue or black stain.  This is a chemical reaction between tanic acid in the wood and iron, when moisture is present.  This is not a defect, but a natural occurrence common to Oak.  It is called "blue stain".

    Prior to shipping, all Oak doors are factory treated with an
oxalic acid solution.  This removes "blue stain".  Subsequent exposure to iron, which can even be air borne or present in perspiration, will cause "blue stain".

    If "blue stain" appears again prior to finishing, the stains
may be removed as follows:

    1.  Prepare a super-saturated solution of oxalic acid
        crystals in a rubber or plastic container.  When
        thoroughly mixed, add an equal volume of water.  Use
        care to protect eyes and skin, as this acid can cause
        burns.  Use in a well ventilated area.  Follow label
        directions.

    2.  Wipe the entire door with a sponge, while wearing
        gloves.

    3.  Rinse with clear water and allow to dry.

    4.  Sand the doors with fine sandpaper after they dry.
        Proceed to finish.
